When Leaves Turn Yellow in Winter

When Leaves Turn Yellow in Winter

There’s a particular kind of heartbreak that comes with spotting a yellowing leaf on your favourite houseplant. It feels personal, somehow. Like your plant is waving a little flag of distress - or maybe just letting go.

Winter brings slower growth, less light, and lower humidity, and our houseplants know it. And while part of me wants to jump to fix it - to water more, or less, or repot - another part is learning to simply let it be.

A yellowing pothos leaf in the foreground of my jungle reminds me that plants, like people, have seasons. Some parts thrive. Others fall away. It doesn’t always mean something’s wrong. Sometimes, it just means things are shifting.

So this winter, as I cradle a yellow Monstera adansonii leaf in my hand, I’m trying not to rush to solutions. I’m letting it be a quiet nudge to rest. To reflect. To tidy up what’s no longer needed and make room for new growth come spring.

From my indoor jungle to yours - here’s to finding beauty even in the fade.
