Ideas for Mother's Day

Ideas for Mother's Day

It is almost here and some will have been planning for ages, some... will not have even thought about it and for most... they'll be asking you what you want to do!

If you are the giver or the receiver (or both), here are some ideas of how to celebrate the day with those you love.

  1. Host a Backyard Brunch Picnic
Swap the crowded café for a picnic rug, thermos coffee, and home-baked muffins in the backyard (or even the lounge floor if it’s raining).

  2. Bake A Favourite Childhood Treat
Nothing beats nostalgia. Whip up the slice, cake, or biscuits she loved growing up. Don't worry about perfect, it really is the thought that counts.

  3. Gift an Experience, Not a Thing
Write a voucher for a future day together—whether it's a plant market trip, a coastal walk, or a “coffee and browse” date at her favourite second-hand bookstore. It doesn't have to be on 'the' Sunday - maybe a hand-written IOU for a plant market stroll, high tea in gumboots in the barn, or just an afternoon together sometime soon. The joy’s in knowing it’s coming.

  4. Her own little 'nook' or 'home retreat' If she’s mentioned needing a space to unwind (or if you’ve seen her reading under three layers of laundry), consider creating a tiny indoor retreat. Surprise her by hanging one of our plant hangers with a trailing green beauty, add a cushion or chair, and voilà—her own serene plant nook.

  5. Make up a 'remember when' game... flick through the photo albums (or Facebook memories) and make up cards or questions based on fabulous family memories.  Make it a quiz for the rest of the family to answer - who did we do this with? What did we do for 'x' that year? Make it about all the things that Mum's so often do to make things special.  Remind everyone of all the amazing memories she has given you all.

Whatever you do, try and make it mindful, time is so precious.  Perhaps reignite an old family tradition or maybe start a new one.

Mum's make the world go round.  Here's to you and to yours. x
