Road to development

This is me picking up my first prototype. I had it laser cut in East Tamaki, Auckland and then took it on a short drive to a powder-coater. How many colour blacks are there? I had no idea there were so many options.

From here, I still needed to source chain and the carabiner clips. It needed to be an easy assembly, and to keep it at a reasonable cost, the accessories used needed to be off-the-shelf (not custom) but still a quality finish.

I wanted the end result to have a high-end designer finish, but not at a designer cost.

Of course, once I was happy with all of that I needed to find a manufacturer and then sort packaging. With all that still to come, I still remember how excited I was to have this prototype in my hands. Up until this point, it had been digital files and a piece of mock up cardboard.

The mask dates the 'era'. Fun times. Grateful though, as the the pandemic was the beginning of this creative venture!
